Picture of green and Clubhouse - 13k

Lytham Bowling Club moved to its present location in 1905, but was in existence before this. It is a calm oasis in the heart of bustling Lytham, surrounded as it is by hedges, mature trees and attractive gardens. The green measures 45 yards by 40 yards and there is a modern Clubhouse with a bar, two snooker tables and comfortable lounges.

It couldn't be easier to get to. The centre of Lytham, with its fine shopping and Public Transport facilities is 100 yards away. The seafront is a further 200 yards, whilst the station, with hourly services to Blackpool and Preston, is only 25 yards away, across the road. There is plenty of parking in the vicinity, some of it free. Click here to see a map.

PROVISION FOR MEMBERS

The Club enters teams in several of the local leagues, more details of which can be seen on the League page. It also, though, runs a range of competitions, for its own members, throughout the year. These include both scratch and handicap competitions, in order to permit all members of the Club to participate, rather than a select few "good" players. A very high proportion of the membership play in an individual competition which lasts throughout the summer on a Wednesday afternoon. There are also Summer and Winter leagues formed from four or five randomly selected teams which compete each week. These are all excellent social as well as sporting events, which ensure that new members are quickly integrated into the social fabric of the Club. Details of some of the competitions can be found on the competitions page.

But members appreciate the informal events as much. On most fine afternoons and evenings in the Summer, members turn up and play bowls with others in informal pairs and foursomes, whilst the same occurs on the snooker tables in the winter where table bowls is also played.

There are also frequent social events throughout the year, offering good food and entertainment at reasonable prices - see the current programme in the events page.

OUR MEMBERSHIP IS CURRENTLY OPEN

On the 9th June 1906 it was resolved that membership of the Club be limited to 150. In order to ensure that all members can have easy access to the green and other facilities it has never been felt appropriate to change this limit. The Club has always had a predominant male membership, and in the past this has inhibited ladies from applying. However, from April 2007 a further membership category, "joint" membership, was introduced to allow wives and partners to become members of the Club at a reduced subscription. This has also encouraged many individuals to join in their own right and lady members now form an increasing proportion of the membership.
At present, we are quite close to our 150 limit, but if you wish to consider joining the Club, please contact the Secretary (Peter Hewitt), who will arrange for you to visit us, make use of the facilities, and, if you wish, complete an application form. The Annual subscription for 2008 is £136.00 for full membership and £68.00 for Senior members (over 80), joint members or Country membership.

GUESTS ARE WELCOME

We are always pleased to welcome individuals, in the company of a member, and groups to enjoy the facilities of the Club. For individuals, there is a nominal charge of £2.00 per person. There is no formal dress code, except that flat shoes without heels must be worn.
