You may choose to display a map showing the extent of the motorway network in a particular year. You may also show an animated presentation of the growth of the network, by clicking on the "slide show" icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the page. For this to be shown effectively, broadband is highly desirable.

To terminate the presentation click on the "esc" key, followed by the "Back" arrow.

Watch out for the major changes that occured in the network between 1970 and 1973. This shows how the east-west routes (M4, M6 and M62) were all opened over this very short time scale
